2009 Ford Fiesta To Be Revealed In Geneva Motor Show

Ford will be revealing the new 2009 Ford Fiesta during the Geneva Motor Show. This new version of the model will be based on the same blueprints as the Mazda 2 and will be the first model to come from their new product-development process.

The Ford Fiesta is a three-door compact hatchback that has been given a few changes in the design as it made the transition from the Verve Concept to the Fiesta production car. The interior remains true to original designs as well, with a futuristic center stack that was inspired by mobile phones. A large-screen display and control panel houses buttons for audio, in-car phone, and vehicle settings; while an array of modern technological features are included, such as Bluetooth integration, auxiliary media player connectivity, and red-tinted ambient lighting.

Under the hood is a range of five engines in Europe that ranges from a 67 horsepower to a 113 horsepower diesel and a 1.6 liter gasoline motor. The transmission choices are limited to a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. The automatic is available only with the 1.4 liter gasoline engine that produces only 90 horsepower.

Ford says that despite remaining roughly the same size as the outgoing Fiesta, the new car is lighter and stronger than the version it replaces, bucking current weight-gaining trends. The U.S. version of the Fiesta will most likely resemble that of the Verve Sedan Concept that was debuted at the Detroit Auto Show.
