Focus Receives ‘Good’ Rating For Saftey Crash Tests

Who knew that crashing a car could be so good? Ford just finished testing their brand new 2008 Focus and sent the results back to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). As most of us know the way that Ford tests their vehicles is by placing dummies in the seats and literally crashing it into a wall.

You’ll be happy to know that it received good results (especially if you own one). The “new” sedan scored a “Good” rating by acing five out of six of the criteria. Head/neck, chest and foot protection was all above average, as were the restraint systems used on the dummies.

The only place the tests weren’t “Good” were in the structure/safety cage ratings, which came in at average. Since no part of the structure was significantly changed for the new model year, it’s pretty much what we, and the Institute, expected. Independent verification will be available once the IIHS does its own battery of tests in the future.
